The President of Rythene is the democratically elected head of state of the Republic of Rythene.
In 1986, President Charles Elmer passed a major amendment to the Rythenean constitution which established the office of vice president, and also granted parliament the power to impeach a sitting president if the prime minister called for a vote of no confidence, which was used to effect on Elmer’s successor Grant Campbell. Campbell’s vice president, Evelyn Dawson, assumed the office of president and amended the controversial impeachment process to require a criminal ruling in the High Court before one’s removal from office.
Three presidents have died in office (Thomas Wright, Harold Marshall, Travis Ward), and two were removed from office (James Morris, Grant Campbell). Thomas Wright died of natural causes, Harold Marshall was assassinated during a speech, and Travis Ward alongside his Vice President Bernard Turner died in an aviation related incident. James Morris was removed from office upon the return of the monarchy during the revolutionary period, and Grant Campbell was impeached for alleged misconduct of authority. There were four presidents of the First Republic (1793–1816), twenty-four of the Second Republic (1824–1986), and seven from the Third Republic (1986–present). Charles Elmer is the only president to have served for two republics.
