The Midwest Separation Union (or Midwest Union), established 1979, is a Federation Presidential Republic with a Figurehead System comprised of predominantly the former Midwest region of the United States. Comprised of 9 states, Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio. The nation is a Warsaw Pact member. The nation is known for its high value in heritage and culture, and is commonly described as a polyethnostate of Nordic, Central, and Eastern European Americans.

The "Midwest" header of the name refers back to the Midwest region of the United States

History

A year after the United States' federal government's exile to the West Coast, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio all began conferences on February 1st regarding secession due to rising authoritarianism from the Emergency Capital.

The Midwest Cultural Revolution

The Midwest Cultural Revolution is the name for the many cultural movements based on Central, Nordic, and Eastern European heritage, including Oktoberfest, Sokol, and numerous Norwegian and Sweedish heritage groups between 1980 and 1995. The declining German class offerings in highschool and college bounced back, along with German offerings in elementary school. The same went on to happen with all the other endorsed languages.

Impact

From 1980 to 1990, Sokol membership increased by 400% and is still steadily increasing. From 1980 to 2000, bilingual literacy rates increased to about 6%, and 12% in the youth, attributed to the Young Age Connections Act.

Government

The Midwest Union is a Federation Presidential Republic with a Elective Monarchy, having a legislative, executive and judicial branch like its sister nations birthed by the Dissolution of the United States, but also a people's branch. Each state is given a judge in the judicial branch per political party, and 1 elected representative per 500k population in the legislative branch's passing house and billing house. The People's Elect and People's Representative are elected in direct voting.

Midwest-Soviet Relations

As early as Midwest independence movements began, the Soviet Union expressed interest and support to the groups, and began aid in May of 1980. Early aid included SKS rifles, rations, and funding.

In 1981 the USSR began supplying the nation with specially designed AKSZs intended to fit in to common ammunition. Throughout 1982 - 1985 the Midwest Union worked to transfer US Dollars to the Soviet Ruble, or as called in the Midwest, the Soviet Dollar, and on June 5th of that year the young nation joined the Warsaw Pact. The integration was met with backlash from the Western States, claiming that the Soviet Union was attempting to "destroy freedom itself" in the Midwest. The first People's Elect, Jim Rhodes, rebuked them with the argument if they refused to help them, they would find someone else, and not be states.

Military

The Midwest Armed forces are comprised into 3 main divisions. The Department of Civilian Defense focuses on internal security, policing, and counter-terrorism. The Midwest Army focuses on border security, and securing claimed territory. Within the Midwest Army includes the Midwest Army-Air Force, boasting squadrons of scouting, logistical plus escort, and even one squadron of strategic bombers plus escorts. The Midwest Navy is the smallest of the 3, focusing on security of the Great Lakes and anti-piracy, working in joint with the Royal Canadian Navy at periods.

Religion

The Midwest Union officially sanctions Methodism, while other prominent religious groups are Catholicism and other forms of Protestantism.

National Anthem

The MSU's national anthem, "Lord Guide Your Loyal", was written by multiple members of the First United Methodist Church, WELS and sanctioned East German ministers, all of which churches were later absorbed into the Midwestern Methodist Church . The song was later adopted in the all Synods' hymnals, and printed in the first hymnal of the United Midwest-Slavic Church.
