Presidential election were held in the Hansa Federation on March 1st 1962. Former president Adrian J Gower decided not to run citing health concerns which made it the first election in which all parties held primaries. Selected for the recovery part was Vice President Nena M Glaasmeier and his running mate Veadland senator Jesse Wentz. Because of a split opposition and overall popularity Glaasmeier won in a landslide against Martin Zern of the newly formed Rechtsparty and his running mate Paul Vollenger. Glaasmeier won the Council of Hansa vote 27 to 20 to 6 which was the first time that the vote was really split. Glaasmeier had benefitted from the recent economic boom and full recovery from both the 53 recession and the overall depression of the post great war. Though the 1962 primary caused a schism in the Recovery party and the split and formation of the Rechtsparty the election of Nena Glaasmeier would directly lead to the modern day party system. |
