The Shokaku-class helicopter carrier (known as the Teufelberg-class helicopter carrier in the Englean Kaiserreich) is a class of helicopter carrier built for the United States of the Tao Navy (USTN) and the Kaiserliche-Marine (KM). Two of the ships - Shokaku and Katsuragi - have been built, and are in service with the Imperial Taoist Navy (ITN). One is currently under construction for the Englean Kaiserreich, Teufelberg.
The Shokaku class was followed by the larger Hinoryu (Graf von Kluge) class, the first being commissioned in November 2012.
The specifications of the Shokaku class are comparable to light aircraft carriers.
During development, Shokaku and Katsuragi were provisionally named "HCV101" and "HCV102" respectively. Being the first and second helicopter carriers in the USTN.
Development
The Shokakus are general purpose warfare carriers operating attack helicopters and anti-submarine helicopters. They also have enhanced command-and-control capabilities to serve as flagships. During peacetime, Shokaku and Hinoryu-class ships could operate together to conduct military operations other than war, peacekeeping and relief operations.
The ships are armed with a 16-cell VLS capable of launching precise attacks on both air and surface targets. The class also sports the Sūkikyō close-in weapon system for self-defense. They are also equipped with the ANCS command system and NGMRCS-3 fire control with an active electronically scanned array radar system.
Depending on the selection and combination of helicopters and planes, the Shokaku class carriers can up to 22 aircraft.
