Algá Brasní, née Simura; born 6th December 1975 is a Sloverti politician who has been President of Slovertia since 22nd of November 2015. Brasní is the first woman to hold the presidency, as well as the youngest president in the history of Slovakia, elected at the age of 45.

Early Life

Algá Brasní was born into a working-class family in Kojbakvy. In Slovertia She has described her upbringing as having occurred within "an open-minded house".

She studied at Vraliegá University of North Kojbakvy and studied law, she graduated in 1997.

Career

After finishing her edication Brasní worked in the local government of Kojbakvy as an assistant in the legal department.

Brasní joined the Sloverti Labour Party soon after in 2000 and was eventually persuaded to run as candidate for Kojbakvy North in the 2005 general election. Brasní won the seat. She also served as a member of the Education, Culture and Sport Committee and the Health and Community Care Committee.

In 2015 Brasní ran for the presidential candidicy for the Sloverti Labour party winning the candidicy with 56% of her party's votes. Brasní won the presidential election of 2015 with 59% of the public vote abd was sworn into office in Risí Street, Brativas one month later.

Personal Beliefs

Brasní has campaigned on women's rights and gender equality, and is a self-described feminist; she has argued that Slovertia's feminist movement is not simply symbolic, but "sends a powerful signal about equality".
