The Galdsilten(Nitobryn: Golden Steps) officially the Principality of the Galdsilten is a chain of four major and 23 minor islands situated in the far north-east of the Nortuan mainland. It is a founding member and Federal Subject of the Commonwealth of Arenor. It is a semi-constitutional principality headed by the Princess of the Galdsilten; the Princess being the Head of State who's powers are equivalent to a President in a presidential system.
The Galdsilten shares a maritime border with the Republic of Arenland, both islands being connected by the Ultamon Commonwealth Bridge. Its immediate adjacency to the Nortuan mainland as well as the abundance of gold, silver and rare earth metals made it a popular source of trade with traders seeking to avoid the pirate infested waters of the Rensal Sea, choosing to cross the relatively safe islands along the Platinum Path. The taxes earned from the high volume of wealth flowing through the islands made the contemporary Galdsilten the most prosperous of the five Arenoran nations, exercising some degree of soft power through loans given to both Arenland and Oritanth to fund their wars. In 1723, King Richard II Rhodon invested much of the royal treasury into raising a fleet of ships to compete with the distinguished navy of Schaltenkuut, bankrupting the nation and pushing it to the brink of civil war in the process.
