The Beithíoch (English: beast) is a 155 mm self-propelled gun developed by Monarcha Ríoga Tanc in the late 1990s for the Ossorian Armed Forces. It entered service in 2003 and is currently operated by the Royal Ossorian Army, the Royal Ossorian Marine Corps, the Ossorian Royal Guard, and some units of the Ossorian Home Guard.
History
Design
The Beithíoch is a wheeled, 155mm 52-caliber self-propelled howitzer. It embarks 36 rounds and is typically operated by a crew of five or six, though it can be operated by a crew of three if necessary. It has a firing range of approximately 40 kilometres with ranges of more than 50 kilometres being achieved through the use of rocket assisted shells. The Beithíoch is equipped with a fully-armoured four-person cabin, ballistic computer, an automated laying system, and a muzzle velocity radar, and is able to integrate into any C4I system.
Tailored for shoot-and-scoot tactics, the Beithíoch is able to set up rapidly, with a trained crew needing approximately 60 seconds to be ready to fire and 40 seconds to leave after firing. It is capable of a sustained rate of fire of six rounds per minute.
