The Velacruz National Army (Ejército Nacional Velacruz) is the land component of the Velacruz Armed Forces. Its 126,953 soldiers are deployed in relation to its military doctrine. The contemporary Velacruzean Army incorporates many jungle and special forces infantry units into its structure.
History
Military traditions in Velacruzean territory go back to prevestrino times, ranging from small armed bands to the large warbands assembled by the Hialeah Civilization. After the Veleaz conquest of the Vestrim, small garrisons were kept at strategic locations but no standing army existed until the Dominion reforms of the 18th century. The main purpose of this force was the defense of the Viceroyalty from pirates and corsairs as well as internal rebellions.
Organization
The current Chief of Staff of the Velacruzean Army is General Querubín Quintanilla. Land forces are subordinated to the Ministry of Defense and ultimately to the Governor-General as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
The Chief of Staff of the Army is a member of the National Defense Staff, a body composed of the service chiefs from each service who advise the Governor-General, Prime-Minister and Secretary of Defense on military matters under the guidance of the Chief of the Defence Staff
