The Guldliga is the highest level of the Eldmarsk football league system. With 16 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Eldmarsk Football Union. Typically, seasons run from September to April, with each team playing 30 matches against all other teams, both home and away. Games are typically played on Saturdays and Sundays, however games can sometimes be played on weekdays.
The Guldliga was initially created in 1938, then known as the All-Eldmarsken Fotbollsligan, or the AEF, however it traces its routes back to at least the formation of the first nationwide league, the Förstadivision, which was formed between 8 teams: IFK Hammarvik, Djurbruka FK, Stalkulle IK, FK Grönsund, ISS Juniskaren, Platenburg IFK, Klub Arucian, and Vitberg FK.
