Biography
Early Life
Junn Andrsunn was born in the city of Torsfeld in the province of Ainslynd in 1974 to Harald and Joerga Andrsunn. The couple was roughly middle class, Harald working as an administrator in the city government, and with Joerga working as a librarian. Junn was the younger of two children; he had an elder sister named Koryn, and the two children enjoyed a fairly comfortable upbringing.
At the time that Andrsunn was graduating secondary school, the Federal Guard was actively recruiting and was viewed as an avenue for advancement in the federal government. In addition, Andrsunn had grown up admiring his uncle, who worked in the City Police of Torsfeld, further inspiring his decision to enroll in the Federal Guard Academy in 1992.
Higher Education
Andrsunn entered the Federal Guard Academy in 1992, and quickly found himself rejected by the more aristocratic cadets he encountered, prompting him to fall in with many of the more working-class cadets who had entered on good grades and recommendations. Andrsunn was an unimpressive, but capable student who graduated roughly middle-of-his-class in 1995, receiving his commission and being posted to the Guard detachment in Roan-Ottonia.
Federal Guard Career
Although he had already heard of hardships and injustices that his classmates had experienced in their own upbringings, it was during this time that Andrsunn was taken under the mentorship of a rising star in the Federal Guard named Stevan Grimmeburger. Grimmeburger's perspective was one that Andrsunn was increasingly receptive to, one which was (quietly) harshly critical of the Jaal regime and its authoritarian excesses. As a result, when a coup consisting of Ottonian Federal Defense Service forces and rogue Federal Guardsmen attempted to remove Jaal from power, Andrsunn threw in with his commanding officer and helped to remove the unstable Premier.
Department of Oversight & Compliance
By 2001, the Jaal regime was in the process of being dismantled. Appalled at the way the Guard had been used as an instrument of Jaal's paranoia for more than a decade, Andrsunn resigned his commission once his mandatory period of service was complete. Andrsunn tested into the law program at the University of Innusburg. Andrsunn graduated in 2005 with a dual degree in Law and Sociology.
With a thirst for justice, Andrsunn was quickly recruited by now-Director Grimmeburger's Department of Oversight & Compliance in its mission to root out corrupt and criminal officials of the Jaal regime, removing them from their positions where they were merely corrupt, and prosecuting them where they were guilty of worse. Over the next six years, Andrsunn helped to build and prosecute cases that resulted in the jailing of hundreds of officials and the removal of numerous others from their jobs over the misuse of power and authority.
Political Career
With the DOC's initial mission to restore respectability to the civil service winding down into an oversight role, Andrsunn was no longer needed; the task force he was part of was disbanded in 2011, and Andrsunn promptly ran for office, aiming to gain a seat in the Federal Assembly. Andrsunn ran as a candidate for the Labor Party, which he had aligned with since his resignation from the Federal Guard, and in 2012 he was elected to the Federal Assembly as part of the representation of Torsfeld Prefecture as part of the Popular Front.
Andrsunn quickly distinguished himself as a responsive representative for his prefecture, and a vocal leader for the Popular Front, often clashing publicly with Anessa Maarks and her Federalists, who at the time held the legislative majority. Andrsunn also showed a great enthusiasm for reform measures to increase government transparency and improve policing practices.
When Labor's share of seats in the Federal Assembly expanded dramatically in the 2016, Andrsunn was among the leaders of the newly-powerful Popular Front, and spearheaded the formation of the Federalist-Popular Front coalition government that has controlled the Assembly since 2016. Although Maarks has remained Chancellor in the new coalition government, Andrsunn is widely considered to be the second-most powerful person in the coalition.
