My Little Pelican, called Mon Petit Pélican in Lysian and often shortened MLP or MPP, is a Florentian propaganda fantasy katsuha developped in 2023 by the florentian Ministry of Education, and distributed by the ORTF on the state-owned TV channel TF1.
The serie aims to educate 8 to 12 years old children about the values of the Florentian regime. It tells the adventures of Pélie the Pelican and his friends defending the Empire of Aminalie from different threats symbolizing reactionism and capitalism, thanks to the power of love and friendship. While celebrated for the quality of its animation, character design and well-written scenario, as well as the presence of themes such as homosexuality, it has also been criticized because of its violence and political indoctrination. Indeed, the serie inplicitly encourages to promote love and friendship, but also glorifies the use of violence against the "ennemies of the Empire".
Synopsis
The story begins long ago, in the Empire of Animalie, a nation made of different species of animals calling themselves Animalians. It was an utopia where everybody was equal, following the principles of love and friendship. However, a hundred years ago, the Aristos, a group of evil goat-like monsters, managed to emprison the Emperor thanks to a dark magic spell. For a century, the Aristos reigned supreme, enslaved the Animalians and reduced them to misery : this period is called the Dark Age. However, only a few years ago, one of the Aristos accidentally broke the spell, freeing the Emperor and allowing him to take his power back. Thus, the Aristos had to retreat from Animalia. But this is only a temporary retreat and the Emperor knows very well that the Aristos will come back.
The serie follows the life of Pélie the Pelican, the best student of the Emperor, sent in the small town of Fauville to socialize with people and learn about friendship and love. Pélie will meet there his friends Léo the Lion and Flua the Raven, as well as his future girlfriend Pandie the Red panda. The four heroes will live different adventures, often defending the Empire against the various attacks of the Aristos.
