Alexandria (/ˌæləɡˈzændriə/; Dutch: Alexandrië; Voshaans: Alieksandrije) officially the City of Alexandria (Dutch: Stad van Alexandrië), is the capital of Atmora and is a coastal seaport city in the Province of Pruzhana within the Kingdom of Lieseltania, with the Karmutzen mountains to the east of the city and directly bordering the Bay of Pruzhana. The 2016 census recorded 4,295,929 people in the city, making it the third largest Atmoran municipality.

Alexandria was built along the Seim river incorporating the cities and towns of Arensgenhout, Leidenschendam-Voorburg, Seimsburg, Vorst, De Zweth, Metzochin, and Oudergem in 6 April 1820 by the Federal District Act. The city was named after High Queen Alexandra the Great the mother of the confederation. Alexandria was founded as compromise between the states as previously Pruzhana, the capital of Lieseltania, served as the capitol of the Confederation. However Lieseltania would not cede the land along the mouth of the Seim to Parliament.

Boroughs

The 15 Boroughs of the City of Alexandria.

There are 15 boroughs (Deelgemeenten) of the City of Alexandria, forming as a result of amalgamations following the creation of Alexandria. Each borough is divided in several districts and neighbourhoods (Wijken en buurten). The districts were historical municipalities, towns, and villages that were amalgamated into the City of Alexandria as the city urbanised and expanded.

Each borough has their own mayor (Deelgemeentevoorzitter) and council (Deelgemeenteraad) comprised of 12 councilors each. However the boroughs are not independent municipalities with the Lord Mayor and City Council having the ultimate authority in the City of Alexandria. But there is a division of power between the boroughs and the city government.

National goverment

Under the constitution of the Atmoran Confederation, Alexandria serves as the federal capital. The monarch of Atmora serving as the head of the Confederation, has their official residence at the Royal Palace of Alexandria. Alexandria is the seat of the Chancellor of Atmora at the Slot Meseberg, the Chancellor's official residence. The Palace of the Nation is the seat and meeting place of the Federal Parliament of Atmora. Additionally numerous government buildings are located within Alexandria along with numerous embassies.

Police force

The security of Alexandria is primarily the responsibility of the Alexandrian Metropolitan Police who oversee law enforcement, patrols, and general emergency services for the Alexandria metro area, the Alexandrian Metropolitan Police share responsibilities with the Royal Lieseltanian Police for the surrounding municipalities of the Alexandria Metro arrondissement.

However within the Koninginnekwartier and the National Capital District policing services are handled by the Federal Police over lands and buildings owned by the federal government. The Federal Police also are responsible for police services for the National Railways, Alexandria Metro, and the Royal Lieseltanian Railways services. However for the Ministry of National Defence buildings and facilities within Alexandria are separately provided security through the Alexandrian National Marechaussee. Security of the Monarch, Royal family, Chancellor, and foreign diplomats are provided security through the Financial Marechaussee Secret Service. Additionally the Financial Marechaussee provides law enforcement and customs duties at international airports in Alexandria.
