Cheonghae Federation, natively 청해 연방 - is a democratic country located in the spiral arm of our galaxy. The entire Gliese 581 star system belongs to the federation, and it includes 5 habitable planets.
Cheonghae is a country established by the union of three countries that existed on Planet Gliese 581g - the Republic of Eulji, the Republic of New Halifax, and the Kingdom of Chandra - into one country. In the 2160s, three human nations existed on Planet Gliese 581g after the landing of South Korea's colony ship 'ROKS Arirang', Canada's colony ship 'HMCS Halifax', and India's colony ship 'INS Chandra'. The Republic of Eulji, the Republic of New Halifax, and the Kingdom of Chandra were located on different continents but began to clash with each other as humanity spread across the planet.
In 2190s, when the Planetary Unification Movement was initiated under the leadership of Han Jeong-gi, the politician of the Republic of Eulji, the political environment of the planets began to change rapidly. Han Jeong-gi insisted that the entire planet be integrated into one country to prepare for threats posed by other forces and races in outer space. The unification movement was very well received by the three countries, and in 2194, the three countries were unified into one federation as the political parties that supported Han Jeong-gi won elections in all three countries.

The structure of Cheonghae's government is determined by its constitution. Cheonghae's constitution has been revised several times since its enactment in 2192, and today's constitution has been revised in 2235.
Like many democratic countries, Cheonghae's government is composed of a legislative, judicial, and executive branch. The chief executive officer of the administration is the president, who also serves as the head of state. As the head of the administration, the president has executive, military, and diplomatic powers. The president can be impeached if he violates the Constitution, which requires the consent of a majority of the National Assembly and a final ruling by the Supreme Court. The legislature consists of a unicameral system National Assembly. Cheonghae's national economy is led by many large companies and small and medium-sized enterprises. Each company is making profits by leading a variety of fields, from asteroid belt mineral mining to interplanetary trade, planetary exploration, and infrastructure development.
Helium-3 is classified as a strategic resource for Cheonghae. Helium-3, a raw material used for room-temperature nuclear fusion, occupies an important place in Cheonghae. Since the majority of habitable planets that belong to Cheonghae's territory are used as residential complexes, agriculture is practiced not only on habitable land but also on ordinary rocky planets.
