The Högting (Svaldish: Högting av Sväljdheim; lit. "the high thing"), also known as the Svaldish Parliament, is the unicameral legislative body of Svaldheim, which possess legislative supremacy and, through its recommendation of the Chancellor to the President, retains the ultimate the ability to form governments. The Högting is seated in the Vitbehållan, in the capital of Valhamn.
There are 200 members of the Högting, meaning that 101 seats are needed for a majority. Members elected via party-list proportional representation in elections held every four years, with a 0.5% threshold for parties to be elected.
The Lawspeaker presides over the Högting, who refrains from taking part in debates and acts as an unbiased presiding officer. The Lawspeaker can be elected from a pool of candidates including members of the Högting and of the judiciary; if the Lawspeaker is elected from among Högting members, the Lawspeaker vacates their seat. Since May 2018, Jan Aalberg has acted as Lawspeaker.
