Syara, known officially as the Commonality of Syara, is a sovereign state in Tyran, bordered by Ruvelka to the east and south, as well as sharing overseas borders with Delkora to the north, and Azurlavai to the west. Syara itself is divided into two main geographic sections, the continental mainland and the island Echnigna. Syara forms the southern portion of the western mouth of the Sundering Sea. It's capital and most populous city is Zovahr.
Syaran history goes back as far as 1,500 BCE and is often considered a cradle of civilization. For most of Syaran history the major realms of the country, Makedon, Scitaria, Galania, and the Clans, have existed as independent nations marked by periods of conquest and occupation by both foreign and domestic powers. Marking what many consider the rise of the Classic Age of Syaran history, the Makedonian Empire was founded in 453 BCE and began a campaign of gradual dominance that eventually expanded across much of Ruvelka and Allaunnika. The Makedonian Empire would waver for nearly a thousand years before the Clan Invasion began around 500 CE, which went on to subjugate much of Syara and marked the end of the Makedonian Empire. After several centuries of off and on conflict between the realms much of Syara was united in fighting against the rise of Islam in Mansuriyyah as both powers vied for control in western Siduri. Beginning in the 15th century Syara was subjugated by the Arkoennite Empire and became a satrapy of the Empire. When the Arkoennite Empire finally began to collapse around the 18th century Syara successfully regained it's independence and ushered into a series of unification conflicts before the Republic of Syara was established in 1823.
Sitting at the mouth of the Sundering Sea, Syara benefited immensely from the rapidly growing international trade market and steadily modernized and industrialized. This golden age was marked by occasional conflicts with neighboring Ruvelka, but for the most part Syara experienced domestic tranquility the likes of which it had not seen since the classical era over a millennia prior. The dawn of the 20th century marked an end to the Golden Age with the outbreak of the Ruvelkan Civil War, which Syara intervened in opposition to both sides. However Syaran intervention was cut short by the breakout of the Divide War against the Cacertian Empire. Despite the Empire's status as a great power Syara emerged as the victor. Following the Siduri War Syara entered into a period of modernization and internal crisis which sparked the Refusal War between the nationalist and theocratic Wardens against the Monarchies of Galania and Makedon. The subsequent establishment of the "New World Order" in the form of the Commonality led to a rise of a quasi-theocratic government that continues to rule to this day.
