The Movement of Civic Rights (Russian: Движение гражданских прав; Dvizheniye grazhdanskikh prav) is the current ruling party of the Republic of Kryve, an unrecognised breakaway state of Crimea.
The MCR was formed in 1989 during the collapse of communism to represent the Slavic population in Crimea. The first election of 1989 saw the MCR join the Yedisani dominated Democratic Party in a coalition government under MCR leader Konstantin Chernyshenko. The Chernyshenko government attempted to change the constitution to turn the country into a federal republic but the proposal was rejected by Crimean voters, leading to the MCR to leave government and Chernyshenko declare the independent Republic of Kyrve under the Slavic Liberation Army with Chernyshenko becoming president. The MCR subsequently was banned in Crimea.
Since the creation of the Republic of Kyrve the MCR has dominated politics in Kyrve winning every election. Critics accuse the party of authoritarianism and racism towards ethnic Crimeans and Muslims.
