The Fifth Arenland-Oritanth War began on 19 February 1922 when King Haken Federene of Oritanth was deposed by his brother Jaryth Federene during a period of heightened political unrest and began to dismantle the consitutional policies put into force by Arenland at the end of the Fourth Arenland-Oritanth War. When Arenland threatened military intervention, Jaryth mobilized his forces and declared war, launching a suprise invasion led by his cousin and accomplished military strategist Dietmar Federene. All five of the Arenoran nations participated in the conflict, dedicating considerable amounts of military and industrial resources.
Jaryth's assault on Arenland was initially succesful but began to face fierce resistance as the Arenlandic army mobilized in full. A second Oritanthan army crossing over into Arenland was cut in half when the Crysanthemum Navy of Galdsilten blocked the strait. Cut off from supplies, Dietmar's army attempted to advance on Arenkau but was repelled by fierce fighting. As the invasion collapsed and cracks in Jaryth's autocratic rule emerged, Oritanth's steadfast ally Schaltenkuut switched sides and crippled the Oritanthan Fleet after a series of devestating raids on Oritanthan port cities. A united army of Arenlandic, Galdsalen and Schaltenkuut forces marched into Oritanth. When the western forces encircled the capital of Inverkralle, Arenlandic Premier Haius Ultamonallowed exiled royal and true heir to the throne Jhon Federene to enter the city and convince Jaryth to surrender peacefully. When Jaryth tried to have him executed, his own royal guard refused and slew Jaryth at the foot of the Throne. Oritanth surrendered shortly after and in the ensuing peace, Jhon was recognized as the true heir to the Throne.
