Liberation Day (Besmenian: Tag der Befreiung), is a public holiday in Besmenia, that marks the event when the West Besmenian Revolution ended on June 7, 1966 with the surrender of the West Besmenian government and the collapse of the fascist regime. The holiday was first observed on June 7, 1968 and until 2003 was only a public holiday in the West Besmenian states (Heraldsteinland, South Lemberland, Greuningia, Frankenburg, Zollingia, Sedakania and Jakartaburg). Since 2003 it has been also a public holiday in the East Besmenian state of North Lemberland.

History

Celebrations

  • Many people decorate their homes with the Heraldstein flag. The flagging of public buildings, streets and squares is required by law in most places.
  • Every year on June 7th, a ceremony takes place at the West Besmenian Memorial. Guests are the President and the Governors of the West Besmenian states.

Celebrations in eastern Besmenia

While Liberation Day is of great importance in the western Besmenian states and almost appears there as a second national holiday next to the Day of Reunification, the holiday in eastern Besmenia is almost only celebrated at community level. Many East Besmenians, especially those whose family comes from western Besmenia, decorate their houses and apartments with a Heraldstein flag.
