The Distinguished Medal of Valor is the highest and most prestigious military honor of the Federal Republic of Fratanica, for "exceptionally courageous acts during the might of battle or adversarial attack". The medal can be awarded to both the living and the deceased. Each medal is approved by the National Assembly and presented by the President at the Presidential Palace in a publicly viewed ceremony.
There are currently 419 recipients of the Distinguished Medal of Valor, 238 of them awarded posthumously. Many of these recipients were involved in smaller-scale operations. The medal is the same across all military service branches.
