Nyikaitsva is the northernmost district in Rwizikuru, which as of the 2011 census is the eleventh-most populous district in the country, with 62,014 inhabitants living in the district. Its district seat is Rusere, a port city on the Rwizikuru River. It is bordered to the south by the district of Tsungirirai, to the north by the country of Habasha, and to the east by Sangoguru kuchamhembe.
