Etymology
The name Qarau means "land of seven" in Qaraic, referring to the Seven Dumaaqs which invaded the Siltsk Empire in 1895 and established the United Dumaaqdoms of Qarau. Qarau is also known by several other names in historical sources, including Heptia (a calque of Qarau) and Rubrumontia (land of the Red Mountains). The name "Qarao" is a frequent misspelling of Qarau, and the United Dumaaqdoms of Qarau have officially advised against its usage.
Geography
Qaraic geography can be divided into the two major regions of the Kuulna Steppe and Siltskia. Of these two, the Dumaaqic Steppe is much larger, and makes up the vast majority of the country's land area.
