The 2020 IHF World Championship was hosted by Ghant from 5 July to 21 July 2020. It marked the sixth occasion Ghant has hosted the event, and the 100th anniversary of the inaugural 1920 tournament also hosted by Ghant. The host cities were X, Y, Z, and Ghish, the latter hosting the playoff rounds. Ghant was announced as the host of the tournament at the annual IHF Summit, on 18 April 2011, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the inaugural World Championship Tournament.

Ghant won their eleventh title by defeating Latium in the final, in what has been dubbed the Game of the Next Century.
