János IX (János Zgismond Esterházy; B. 1720) is the official state-backed claimant of the Throne of the Empire and the coronated Emperor of the Empire. He is the designated heir for the throne by his former emperor and father, Zgismond I. Zgismond I's death began the Imperial Civil Dispute where Janos's siblings, Miklós Esterházy, Alispán of Zamárdi and Katalin Esterházy, Alispán of Látrány, have disputed his right to rule and his position.
János was born in the Zamárdi Palace in the Imperial Megye of North Balaton to Zgismond I and his wife, Katarína. Janos was the first born of his three siblings and Zgismond had just ascended to the throne after the death of his father, Vilmos V. This made János the heir apparant. Janos's early life was marked by private tutorship by primarily Veszpremic scholars. János was titled as the Alispán of Gyenesdiás and began to preform public services with his aunt Ispán Szabó. Janos later attended the University of Esztergom, however did not finish due to the onset of the Hódítók Disunity in October 1739 where he dropped his university life to serve as apart of the Imperial Army.
Zgismond I died in April 1742, and Janos was subsequently announced to be the new Emperor by the Imperial Diet. Janos was coronated and officially became Emperor in late May 1742. His initial reign has been mired in a variety of issues that were left unsolved by Zgismond I. The rise of Társadalomellenes, a massive rise of banditry and general lawlessness in the Imperial South was a direct result of the end of the Hoditok Disunity. His popularity has also been hampered by the Imperial Civil Dispute, started initially by his brother Miklós Esterházy, Alispán of Zamárdi and subseqently continued by his sister Katalin Esterházy, Alispán of Látrány.
Early Life
János was born in 1720, two years after the death of his grandfather Vilmnos V. He was born during the reign of Zgismond I and was his first born child, making him the immediate heir apparent. He was the eldest of Zgismond's two other children, Miklós (1922) and Katalin (1926).
