The Omandan Continental War, also known as the <> is a series of armed conflicts which occurred on the continent of Omand as the Order of Soviet Socialist Republics conquered territory across the continent, controlling approximately 90 percent of the continent at its height in 1972. Although the Omandan Continental War is actually a series of smaller armed conflicts, most historians agree that it is appropriate to group the conflicts into a singular period of history and agree that the Omandan Continental War began on July 1, 1931 when Soviet Order forces invaded the Republic of Gratislavia. From there, Soviet Order forces progressed south and east across the continent facing heavily but mostly ineffective resistance due to the Soviet Order's vast technological supremacy over its opponents. Soviet Order Forces had reached the Strada Crossing in 1956.
Offensive operations resumed in 1967 against the Republic of Notreceau, with Soviet Order forces successfully forcing a crossing over the narrow land bridge connecting North and South Omand. Following the crossing, Soviet Order forces rapidly against Notreceauen forces, who were mostly fighting delaying actions to allow time for Notreceauen civilians to evacuate south into the Kingdom of Luminerra and to allow the Lumenic Legion time to complete the Ultima Castellum, or Final Redoubt; a series of heavy defensive fortifications on both sides of the Alpina Mountains designed to hold out the Soviet Order forces. Soviet Order forces began their assault against the Ultima Castellum on August 7, 1972 with the detonation of several tactical nuclear weapons, breaking through in a matter of weeks.
Desperate for assistance, the Allied Nations plead to the Republic of Licana for assistance. The Licanan forces entered the war in July of 1972, landing forces in Vonazzi and beginning a large counteroffensive. Over the next 20 years, the Licana forces, assisted by forces from the Allied Nations, pushed the Soviet Order forces back across the continent, re-crossing the Strada Crossing in 1981 and destroying many of the Soviet Orders elite formations in the process.
Although the final battle of the Omandan Continental War was fought in late January of 1994, most historians agree the true ending of the war was on December 31, 1993 when a strategic nuclear exchange occurred between the Soviet Order and Licana, with targets in Omand also being struck. This exchanged rendered Transnapastain incapable of mounting further offensive operations and prompted the Soviet Order to pull its forces back to approximately pre-war positions and assume a posture of total defense. However, the exchange also severally damaged the Licanan infrastructure and also blunted the spearhead of Licanan and Allied forces advancing on the Soviet homeland. Although the war is considered to be concluded, the Soviet Order never formally surrendered nor signed an armistice and small scale combat continues to this day, notably the enforcement of a total no-fly zone over the Soviet Order and continued naval blockade of Soviet Order ports primarily designed to prevent any Soviet Order warships, specially submarines, from entering the Thetian Ocean.
Without a doubt, the Omandan Continental War was the most destructive war in Annwynn history, with a military death toll of <a lot> and a civilian casualty count of <also a lot>. Furthermore, the Omandan Continental War radically altered the geopolitical makeup of the world, allowing to cement its position as a world power, severely hindering Licana's ability and desire to involve itself in events occurring on the world political stage, and removing the Soviet Order's status as a superpower and hegemon of Omand, and rendered it unable to project any power beyond its own shattered homelands.
