Varddi is a landlocked nation located in the continent of Lorecia. It is bordered to the west by the Aurora Confederacy and to the east by Arstotska. Prior to 2007, Varddi was a terra nullius called simply the Western Tundra, with no established government or recognized borders.

Geography

Varddi has a population of 300,000 people. The terrain of Varddi is characterized by the alpine tundra climate, which creates a challenging environment for farming and other agricultural practices. The main river in Varddi is the Rorn, and the highest point in the nation is Njullávarri, which rises more than 2,400 meters above sea level.

History

In 2007, Belka occupied the Western Tundra, prompting the Astyrian Coalition to take action to free the region from occupation. With assistance primarily from the Blackhelm Confederacy and Romberg, Belka was eventually driven out, and the nation of Varddi was established. The majority of the population is comprised of herding clans, who have adapted to the challenging environment over generations.

Government

Varddi operates as a parliamentary democracy with a unicameral legislature. The executive branch is led by a prime minister, who is appointed by the president. The judiciary is independent of the other branches and consists of a supreme court and lower courts. The government is based in the capital city of Alggas, and is currently under the leadership of Prime Minister Ovddas Máhtte.

Economy

Varddi's economy is heavily based on traditional activities such as reindeer herding, traditional crafts, and sustainable forestry.

Reindeer herding is the backbone of the economy, with many Varddic families raising and tending to reindeer. The sale of reindeer meat, fur, and antlers provides a source of income for many Varddic families. Traditional crafts, such as carving and weaving, are also an important part of the economy. These crafts are often sold to tourists and visitors to the region.

In addition, sustainable forestry is also an important part of Varddi's economy. The use of reindeer for logging helps to reduce the environmental impact of this activity, and allows for the use of wood as a natural resource without damaging the delicate ecosystem of the alpine tundra. Some small mines are also present in the area, but mining is not a major part of the economy.

Tourism is also an emerging industry in Varddi, with many visitors coming to the region to experience traditional Sami culture, go hiking, and observe the unique wildlife in the area. Varddi's focus on sustainable tourism practices ensures that tourism benefits the local economy without causing undue harm to the environment.

Culture

The majority of the Varddic people are ethnically Snjóráhccat, who maintain a culture that is heavily influenced by their nomadic lifestyle. The traditional dress of the Snjóráhccat is made from locally sourced materials and is designed to protect against the harsh alpine tundra climate, and they are known for their music, which is characterized by the use of traditional instruments such as the munnharpe and the willow flute.

The Varddic government has instituted policies to promote and preserve the traditional culture of the Snjóráhccat.

Varddic cuisine features local game meats and fish, as well as dairy products. The traditional dress of the Snjóráhccat people includes brightly colored garments with intricate embroidery
