The Saminshayist movement, also known as Saminshayism (Barmian: သမိနသဟယဝါဒ; Saminshayward), is a political and ethno-nationalist movement and ideology within Bethausia that was created during the 1950s. It advocated for the restoration of ethnic Barma and Mon rule dating back before the creation of the Konbaung-Seppayilä branch. They denounce the rule of William Edwardius III and his ancestors and the administration of Aeindra Inzali Zin Kyaw and her predecessors. Alongside this, it also preached the "rightful" superiority of the two ethnic groups and exaggerated their contribution to Bethausian civilization throughout its history. Saminshayism also exhibits their disdain for the monarchy and endorsement of a republican government, giving rise to other branches of the movement that advocated for other forms of anti-monarchist systems such as socialism and militarism.

Etymology

Saminshay originates from two Barmian words saminekyaungg (သမိုင်းကြောင်း) and shayyroehcwal (ရှေးရိုးစွဲ), meaning "historically" and "conservative," respectively.

The militarist movement stems from members, especially the general officers, of the Bethausian military and advocates of militarism. Particular individuals such as Kaung Thura Kan emphasized the need for a strong military to defend the ideology and the country and how the military should dominate social life to ensure stability.
