Vehicle registration plates of Lindenholt
Lindian vehicle registration plates are required for all Lindian motor vehicles that want to make use of public roads. The registration of motor vehicles in Lindenholt is a competency of the Traffic Administration Service (WBD) which is a governmental organisation that manages the distribution of vehicle registration plates and the vehicle's registration documents. Unlike in some countries where a sequence is coupled to the owner of the vehicle, the vehicle registration plates of Lindenholt are solely used for the identification of a specific vehicle; meaning that if a vehicle were to change ownership, the sequence on the registration plate would remain the same.
Current scheme
Colour
Lindian license plates overall use black lettering on a yellow background. To the left of most license plates there is a blue patch with the Ventisstar. License plates that do not carry the blue patch are taxis, who use black lettering on a blue background. Similarly, although with a green background are trader's plates meant for the temporary registration of vehicles for test rides and the likes and Trailers with a maximum weight of 750 kilogram who have a white background. Vehicles that, upon registration, are older than forty years have a dark blue background with white lettering. These plates also don't carry the blue patch.
Sequence
Lindian license registration plates use an alphanumerical sequence consisting out of anywhere between five and seven characters. All characters are grouped based on what type of character they are; meaning that letters are grouped exclusively with letters and numbers are grouped exclusively with numbers. All groups are separated by a dash. While most characters are simply a randomly generated, some characters carry an underlying meaning. These characters are the five vowels (A, E, I, O, U), Y and Q. With exception of these characters, the sequencing is identical for all vehicle registration plates in Lindenholt, regardless of their type. Groups can range in length from a single to three characters depending on the series of the vehicle registration plates. There is a total of ten series.

A
The first number denotes one of the nine WBD regions where the vehicle was first registered in Lindenholt for use. This can be any number from 1 to 9. Once a vehicle's owner moves out of the region where the car was first registered, or the car is sold to a resident of another region, the license plate number sequence will remaind identical. In principle, a car retains the same registration (including the region code) until it has been registered in another country.
B
These are a randomly generated number from 0 to 9.
C
The first letter of the registration plate can denote that the vehicle is of a special type. This is the case when the first letter is an A, E, I, O, U, Y or Q Motorbikes can be denoted with an A or an E in the "C-position". Commercially owned vehicles are identified with an O or U, trailers with a total weight of over 750 kilograms with an I or Y and Q is reserved for vehicles in miscellaneous categories. The first letter of vehicle registration plates that do not fall within this category are one of the 19 other letters of the alphabet.
D
These are a randomly generated consonants that are not a Y or Q. These include: B, C, D, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, P, R, S, T, V, W, X, Z.
Official vehicles
Vehicles owned by the national government omit any sort of regional code and instead have a group of two letters. Each letter combination, often an abbreviation of the institution that operates the vehicle, denotes the operator of the vehicle. Vehicles employed by diplomatic missions, embassies and consulates start with the letter combination "CD" (Corps diplomatique) in place of the regional code. The next group is followed by a double digit number combination denoting the operator of the vehicle.
