The Socialist Party (West Crylantian: "Socialistica Partita", East Crylantian: "Socialistiskepartiet") is a centre-left to left-wing political party in the Crylantian Federation.
Growing out of trade unionist and socialist movements in the 1930's, the party's initial aim was "to bring about democratic socialism in Crylante through gradual, peaceful and democratic change". It quickly gained support among the urban working-class, and got the highest share of the vote in the 1939 election. However, the party could not form a government within the Parliament of the Crylantian Principality, and an attempt to form a minority government with the Trúathi Party and the Farmers' Party failed after two months. Two new elections were called, but the same problem faced the Crylantian Parliament, and a referenda was held on whether to re-write the constitution, which passed and Crylante adopted its signature federal, multi-party, directorial system of governance, leading the party to enter a perpetual coalition with the Reform Party, the Trúathi Party and the Farmers' Party. The new constitution allowed for referenda, leading the Socialist Party's Director of Finance, Gaius Septimus, to propose successful referenda to establish single-payer universal health care, social housing for the poor to live in, and the building of nationalised geothermal power planted within the mountains of Nixoperuit so that the poor could afford decent power. While over the years minor cuts have been made to this model, Septimus' policies are considered a vital part of Crylantian identity and are admired by the right, left and centre of Crylantian politics.
Today the party has a social democratic and environmentalist platform with influences from democratic socialism and Keynesian economics, advocating the building of more government-subsidised housing, the nationalisation of all energy and public transport, strengthened collective bargaining rights and support for co-operative business, as well as taking a socially progressive stance on abortion and euthanasia, as well as supporting the legalisation, taxation and regulation of soft drugs, and a pacifist foreign policy. It is the second-largest party in the People's Assembly, the third-largest in the States' Assembly and possesses two members of the National Council, the Director for Home Affairs Alfredo Gabbascia and the Director for Education, Research and Healthcare, Arthur Troelsen.
