The Special Investigation Bureau (SIB) (Dutch: Speciale Onderzoeksbureau) is the main domestic intelligence and security service of the Atmoran Federal Police that is tasked with counter terrorism, counterintelligence, and investigating serious crimes. The SIB also oversees handles confidential informants, administers witness protection, monitors potential corrupt Federal Police officers and provides information on threats to the Department of State Security and the Joint Intelligence Committee.

Mission and responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Special Investigation Bureau include:

  • Protection from terrorist attacks
  • Protecting and detecting against foreign intelligence operations and espionage
  • Protecting against cyber-based attacks and high-technology crimes
  • Combating political corruption and police corruption at all levels
  • Combating transnational/national criminal organizations and enterprises
  • Combating major white-collar crime
  • Combating significant violet crimes
  • Security for movement of weapons, ammunition, and large cash-in-transit shipments
  • Operation of the Witness Security Programme
