The Imperial Resistance Army (German: Widerstanden Armee des Kaisers) was a resistance movement organised and comprised of Englean officers, soldiers, and civilians trapped in the colony of Neu-Breissau after the capture and occupation of the territory by the Empire of the Tao in 1942. The organisation was created after the surrender of the colony by Deputy Governor Paul Takhani, whom was discovered to have been an agent of the Taoist Imperial Army. Governor and General der Schutztruppe Engelbrecht Kreutzwald did not formally surrender himself nor the colony, choosing to evacuate the capital to create a resistance movement within the central jungles of the territory. For the entirety of the occupation years, the WAK continued to operate through guerilla warfare and acts of sabotage throughout the territory. The spirit of Kreutzwald was noted to have been "awe-inspiring," even despite his age (mid-50s). He was quoted as to saying after the surrender, "They might have taken my territory, but they will never live to enjoy it." After a Taoist official described their activities as "...like wild animals in the jungles," the group adopted the nickname Wildkatzen (Wildcats). In addition, the group's banner was named the "Setting Sun" to represent the eventual defeat of the Taoist forces whose flag was known as the "Rising Sun." Upon the Englean Liberation of Neu-Breissau in 1944/45 , the Imperial Resistance Army was formally commended and disbanded.
