The UP was created in 1942 as a fusion between the Constitutionalist Party and the Conservative Party. Since its foundation it has held government multiple times, most notably from the 1964-1980 period, where their popularity plummeted following the aftermath of the Nuxo-Chistovodian War. They were in opposition for most of the following two decades, returning to government for the first time in 2008. | ||||||||

The SDP is Halland's oldest surviving party, established in 1824. It has grown significantly in strength following the Nuxo-Chistovodian War and the subsequent fall in popularity of the Communist Party of Halland, which was splintered and partly incorporated into the SDP. The Social Democratic Power held power notably during the two last decades of the 20th century, before the 2005 economic crisis. They have remained leaders of the opposition since. |
