The Keldons are an ethnic group of humans hailing from the South Mystrian land of The Veiled Isle.

Name

The name Keldon is a translation and transliteration of the native term "Ka'el'du̯n", which is itself a translation of the Vorluun term "Kaeldʊn" which means "country dwellers", in reference to what is believed to be a historically rural lifestyle in contrast to the much more urban oriented Vorlonii. However, many Keldon people in fact use their own term instead of the Nebbarath one in the name of reclaiming their heritage.

Distribution

Keldon people are almost exclusive to the Veiled Isle, and there are no significant settlements of Keldon people off the Island. On the island Keldon people constitute a small underclass of the Nebbarath dominated human society of the island, finding respect only among the Vorlonii Beastlings living along the Forntinbaas River. As a result, most Keldon people prefer to live among the Beastlings.

Physical Characteristics

In terms of basic physical character and indeed of genetics, the Keldon closely resemble the Varnal, to the point where many liken the two. Historians on the other hand point to a lack of archaeological evidence to dispute this claim. The typical Keldon Man stands 1.91m tall, the typical woman 1.75, tall in comparison to most Mist Continental Humans. The average man weighs 108.86kg, the average woman 75.41kg. Keldons tend to be very dark skinned with a strong brown undertone, with almost exclusively black hair and brown eyes. Keldons also tend to have a strong and regal posture when handling themselves.

Culture

Keldon culture is insular, but communal. Typically speaking Keldon people interact more or less exclusively with members of their own kind unless it is absolutely necessary. This has been a result of years of abuse at the hands of the nonnative Nebbarath who came to the Isle sometime in the early historical period. However, once one has earned the trust of a Keldon, person, community, or sometimes the society at large, they have a loyal ally for life, a factor the Vorlonii discovered in their own, successful attempts to resist Nebbarath land grab.

Language

Typically, Keldon speak their own native language Keldon, though some also speak Keld Neterlingua. Those who live among the Vorlonii usually speak Vorluun as a native or second language. Some of the educated class of Keldon speak Common but this is a fairly rare thing.

Religion

The bulk of the Keldon population practice Bruuneian, or worship o the patron deity of the Isle Brunen (br'unin in the Keldon tongue) though some Keldons also practice Mystrian Pandeism, often with a focus on Serionism or Forntianism. In particular Forntian beliefs are very common among those Keldons who live among the Vorlonii.
