The Imperial Free Army (Kaiserlicher Freiarmee) is the overall term for both regular and irregular combat units active within the Englean Republic from 1918 to 1922. Following the establishment of the Englean Republic and the forced exile of Emperor Wilhelm III, members of the Englean Imperial Army were given the option by the government to either continue serving in the Federal Army or be forced to retire. Nearly 60,000 individuals were reported as refusing to pledge allegiance to the republic, and in 1918 multiple groups were reported as being established as "members of the continued Imperial Army."
