The National Observer (French reformed: L'Observateure Nationale) is a Gylian newspaper, founded in 1950. It is one of Gylias' major liberal newspapers.
History
It was founded in 1950, and intended by the founders as a successor to the defunct Risveglio Nazionale. Initially a monthly magazine, it gradually evolved into a daily newspaper, and it became an openly Donatellist paper rather than attempting to represent all sides of politics like its inspiration.
Its stature within Gylian liberalism was reinforced during the Golden Revolution by Donatella Rossetti's support; she came to favour the newspaper as an outlet for her editorials.
The 1990s saw it adopt new technology such as digital printing, establish its website, and digitise its archives through BiblioNet.
Profile
Its political orientation is liberal and Donatellist, but considered more pragmatic and centrist than its competitor L'Actualité.
It publishes editions in English, French, and Italian.
Ownership and organisation
The National Observer is owned and published by the Observers collective, legally constituted as an SP. Its headquarters are in Sarra, Alţira.
The newspaper has a 5-member Management Board and a 10-member Supervisory Board, elected yearly.
Its revenue comes from newsagent's sales, paid subscriptions, online orders, and donations. Donors are listed at the end of each issue. It accepts classified advertising.
