The Mendata-class are a class of nuclear-powered submarine attack submarines manufactured by Acásh Maritime Industries for the Carlosian Navy. Their primary mission is to detect and engage enemy warships and other submarines, though it may also strike targets on land. With over fifty in service as of 2018, they are considered the backbone of Carloso's submarine force.

Overview

General configuration

The Mendata has a double-hull configuration. The outer hull is composed of titanium, meaning the boat is somewhat lighter and allows it to dive deeper than most submarines with hulls made of steel.

Armament

The primary armament of the Mendata-class are eight 660 mm torpedo tubes, designed to fire heavyweight torpedoes, mines, L744 Santana anti-ship and cruise missiles. Its secondary armament consists of twelve vertical launch tubes designed to carry either cruise missiles or anti-ship missiles. A specially modified version of the L593 Chiron man-portable air-defence system is built into the sail of the submarine and is intended to engage pursuing ASW helicopters.

Propulsion

A Mendata-class is powered by a liquid metal-cooled nuclear reactor.
