Operation Kontos
Operation Kontos was a Syaran offensive carried out by the Syaran 9th Army from 4 to 13 November, 2008.
After the capture of Dunakesi, Syaran forces of the 9th Army pivoted north-east to continue to pressure the withdrawing 2nd Székesfehérvár Front. Rather than submit to a pitched battle, the Ruvelkans steadily withdrew east over increasing rough terrain, owing to the various ridges and valleys that lay among the meeting of the Matra and Kurilla Mountain ranges. Unable to advance rapidly, the Syarans moved forward at a slow pace, making extensive use of artillery to subjugate Ruvelkan defensive positions. By 13 November the Syarans halted their advance under orders from Colonel General Valentin Stavrik, who was concerned that 9th Army was becoming increasingly strung out in the rough terrain. These fears proved founded later in November when they were exploited during the Ruvelkan Winter Counter-Offensive.
