The Stasno-Dagelian War, also known as the South Zevgorian war, was an armed conflict between the People's Republic of South Zevgoria, supported by the United Socialist Republics of Stasnov, and the Republic of Dagelia. The war officially began on the 4th of October 2015, when Dagelia initiated a ground invasion preceded by a large-scale artillery barrage.

Background

In 1994, the People's Republic of Dagelia was dissolved by the National Party-led military coup d’etat commanded by General Gujar Kurashvili, who established the Republic of Dagelia under a military junta. In 1995, the military handed political power to the National Party led by Davit Giorgadze, and the country has since then transisioned to an open democracy. Despite claiming to be democratic, Giorgadze has been the country's president since 1995, though allegedly rigged elections. Giorgadze continued a number of Junta-era policies, such as a neo-liberal approach to the economy, something that has severely increased the gap between the richest and poorest citzents of the nation.

In 2003, a Left-wing armed movement, called the South Zevgorian People's Front, started an uprising in the Dagelian province of South Zevgoria, that has a majority Stasnovan population. The South Zevgorian People's Front, along with popular apporoval and Stasnovan diplomatic (and alledgedly material) support, managed to push the rag-tag Dagelian military out of the province's borders and establish the People's Republic of South Zevgoria, a Socialist State. South Zevgoria has since then been engaged in a standoff with the central Dagelian government, that seeks to retake the province from rebel hands. The last armed clashes ended in 2005, after a ceasfire was signed. The conflict between Dagelia and the Stasnovan-backed South Zevgorian People's Front has been the reason of a serious decrease of Stasno-Dagelian relations in the years following the 2003 separatist uprising.

Stasnovan interests and involvement

Invasion of South Zevgoria

On the 3rd of October, 2015, the Dagelian military launched a heavy artillery barrage that lasted for eight hours and targeted all major cities of South Zevgoria, leaving 478 dead. On the 4th, at 19:00, the Dagelian Ministry of Defence announced that "the Dagelian military began the military operation for establishment of constitutional order in South Zevgoria". The ground invasion followed shortLY after. The cities of Chekhavali, Mienta and Kokoity were turned into battlegrounds as Dagelian forces clashed with local militia defensive units.

Stasnovan intervention

The Stasnovan Commissar of Defence issued a declaration of war shortly after the initial invasion, and troops of the 27th Guards Army began entering South Zevgoria on October 5th in order to assist in the defense of the region.

Following the cessation of hostilities, it was revealed that a team of R-DARK Rangers from Brytene had deployed alongside the Stasnovans, operating in the area around Chekhavali in order to disrupt Dagelian logistical lines.
