The Witenagmot is the upper legislative house of Brytene. It consists of the Bretwalda and the Jarls and Eorls of each canton, who are elected by public vote from amongst the Thegn Rede to serve as the representatives of the five cantons of Brytene. Witenagmot members are generally elected for life, or until a vote of no-confidence is passed by the Thegn Rede.

The chambers of the Witenagmot

The Witenagmot has the power to declare war, agreed on international treaties, ratify new bills, make final rulings on court cases of national importance, and appoint judges. The Witenagmot is the highest power in Brytene, and is commonly referred to to mean the government as a whole. A member of the Witenagmot is also informally known as a 'Witan', or 'wise person'. The Witenagmot typically meets in the eponymous Witenagmot building, originally a large timbered hall but rebuilt in the mid 1800s in a neo-classical style.
