Episode Number/Name Description
Episode One - “Mother Lee Soo-jin is a theoretical physicist that works for a branch of the Niels Bohr Academy in Omsk, however, due to the Academy’s connections with the Gabriel Narutowicz Pioneers she also finds herself teaching science to younger students.

As Soo-jin starts to volunteer with the Pioneers, a series of events lead her to taking more of a responsibility with looking after the children, at first Soo-jin is reluctant to take on this additional responsibility, however, as she starts to get more involved she starts to suspect that one of the students, Kim Chae-Yeong is being neglected at home, a fear that is confirmed when Soo-jin supports the young child wandering around Omsk late at night.

Soo-jin reports this behaviour to the school authorities and the local police force, however, they are unable to do anything due to a lack of evidence and the situation continues to deteriorate from that point forward.

As Soo-jin is set to end her phase of cooperation with the Gabriel Narutowicz Pioneers and looks to travel to the Research Colony she visits the home of Kim Chae-Yeong to check on her wellbeing, at this point she finds the child outside in freezing conditions with her parents gone and decides to take her.

Episode Two - “Escape”

Soo-jin looks after Chae-Yeong for the night while attempting to contact her parents, however, after talking with the child and confirming her previous suspicions of neglect and abuse she makes the decision to hold onto the child, with the academic working on a plan with the child that will convince the wilder society that she perished while falling into a fast flowing river.

After enacting their plan Soo-jin makes preparations to take Chae-Yeong to the Research Colony with her, however, in order to do that she needs to arrange fake travel documents for the flight. As the police investigate Chae-Yeong’s disappearance Soo-jin and Chae-Yeong (now named Min-Ji) bond as they travel around Malgrave, with the pair encountering numerous troubles as they try to arrange safe passage between the Malgravean mainland and the Research Colony.

Eventually Soo-jin runs into her parents who assume that Min-Ji is her biological daughter and take them into their house, with Min-Ji quickly settling into the family and becoming a firm favourite of Soo-jin's mother.

As this is happening both Min-Ji’s abusive parents are trying to track her down, and the police investigators are looking into the possibility that Min-Ji was kidnapped.

Episode Three - “Safety” Soo-jin continues to look for a way for her to safely travel to the Research Colony with Min-Ji, however, in the meantime she continues to talk with her family and enroll her in a local school despite her expressions that she will only be on the mainland for a few days.

At that time Soo-jin's sister, Lee Yeon-Seo, a reporter for the Royal Malgravean Times stumbles upon the fact that Min-Ji isn’t Soo-jin's daughter and is in fact Chae-Yeong, a child that went missing in Omsk and confronts her older sister about this.

Soo-jin’s confirmation sends shockwaves across the family, as they have seen how Soo-jin and Min-Ji interact in a loving manner that is quite comparable to that between a Mother and their Daughter. An argument follows, with the end result with Soo-jin agreeing to leave the household and never return.

Unknown to all, Min-Ji is listening to this conversation, and after waiting for everyone in the household to fall asleep she takes her belongings and leaves the house, with intentions to return home, but at this time she is kidnapped by her abusive father.

Episode Four - “Tragedy”

Soo-jin wakes up to find Min-Ji missing, and despite her frantic searching all over the neighbourhood is unable to find her, the sudden disappearance of Min-Ji and the heartfelt note that she left Soo-jin causes her sisters and parents to re-evaluate their feelings and remember the joy that she brought to the household.

At this time Soo-jin's mother, Eun-Ji gets a call from Min-Ji’s abusive father who now claims a large payment from the family in return for the safety of the child, this causes further distress in the family, however, after a talk they inevitably agree.

Unknown to both Soo-jin and Min-Ji’s father, the police are tracking the conversation, although they are now confused as to how someone's biological father is now holding their own kid ransom against those that kidnapped them in the first place.

When Soo-jin arrives to transfer the money and secure Min-Ji she is instead kept at gunpoint by Min-Ji’s father who instead says that he has no intention for either Min-Ji or Soo-jin to leave the building alive, after sharing his reasons he threatens to beat Min-Ji, however, in a feat of strength Soo-jin breaks free and is able to fight off Min-Ji’s father long enough for them to make an escape. At this point the police arrive and Min-Ji’s father kills himself.

Episode Five - “Finale”

Soo-jin and Min-Ji are able to escape in the chaos, and the pair manage to make their way to a small ASG centre to spend the night, with the pair eating a small meal before returning to Soo-jin’s parents house. At this point the police are fast on their trail and manage to track them down to the ASG centre, however, due to social norms the police are unable to link the ASG centre to the missing child and instead return to Soo-jin’s house on instinct.

After returning to her parents house Soo-jin once more attempts to leave the Malgravean mainland, however, before she can leave to the Research Colony she is intercepted and arrested while Min-Ji is taken into the protective custody of the state.

A fierce legal battle erupts between Soo-jin and Min-Ji’s mother over the custody of the child and their various actions, however, once video footage emerges of Min-Ji being abandoned in the snow to die after revealed the opinion of the court and the nation swings against her biological mother and eventually Soo-jin becomes the child's legal guardian

At this point Soo-jin and Min-Ji are shown living peacefully in Aurora, with Soo-jin leading an expedition of the Gabriel Narutowicz Pioneers as they look at Puffin Island.
