The Gabrielt languages are a group of related langauges which originated in Southern Gabrielland. It comprises the majority of the languages spoken in the Kingdom of Gabrielland, and is one of the most widely-spoken languages in eastern Thuadia. They are collectively spoken by around 145 million native speakers, mostly in Southern Gabrielland, and by an additional 45 million speakers, mostly in the Arsyan realms, for a total of 190 million speakers. The Standard Gabrielt language serves as the lingua franca of the country, and is also an official language of the Dokodo Union.
The study of the Gabrielt languages has been documented since the early dynastic period of Gabrielland, with numerous sources and evidence suggesting that educated scholars and grammarians ought to preserve the traditional form and sound of Literary Gabrielt, an attested classical language which is the descendant of the majority of the modern Gabrielt languages. In the 18th and 19th century, modern linguistics first examined the structures and morphosyntactic evolution of the Gabrielt language, and in the early 20th century, a hypothesized Proto-Gabrielt language was put forth by Gabrielt linguist Sadi V. Karyaman based on his prior research on the various Gabrielt languages.
Literary Gabrielt is the oldest attested language in the Gabrielt language family, written in the original Gabrielt script which has been supplanted by the Prei script in official purposes and the latin alphabet in all other circumstances. It has been thought that all Gabrielt languages were descendant from Literary Gabrielt due to its prestige and status even in present-day Gabrielland, although this myth has been debunked based on scientific research on the northern Tazbakan languages and the eastern Kitannyar langauges which show very divergent forms and archaic structures not present in the literary language of Gabrielland.
currently, the Gabrielt languages are an important aspect in Gabrielt life and politics, as the Standard Gabrielt language serves as the lingua franca of the nation and is an official language of the Dokodo Union. However, the Gabrielt populace and regional governments still prefer to speak and converse in their own local tongues and dialects, only switching to Standard Gabrielt if there is a case of misunderstanding between Gabrielts. Arsyan people automatically learn the Standard Gabrielt langauge in schools. Although so, the Gabrielt langaues are virtually unheard of outside of Gabrielland as the Arsyan languages predominates in the north of the country. Still, the Gabrielt languages have played an important role in the devleopment of the Gabrielt state and country as well as its cultural customs and practices.
