The Working People's Party (Geatish: Arbeterfolksparti; AFP), is a social democratic political party in Eldmark. As of writing, the party holds the largest amount of seats in the Riksdag, with 108 seats out of a possible 345, and is the leader of a coalition of parties that includes Reformblock, Varldens Koalitionen, The Gahodi, and, controversially, the Eldmarsk Section of the Worker's Internationale. Founded in 1901 as the political arm of the Eldmarsk Trade Union Congress, the party is the second oldest active party in Eldmarsk politics, the first being the National Party by only two months.

The Working People's Party has been long a staunch advocate for welfare expansion, minority rights, nationalization of essential enterprises, and worker's rights. After the Great War, they were pressured into diluting their policies, abandoning the anti-capitalist platform for a more liberal one, embracing Keynesianism, causing the radical elements of the party to split into what would become the Eldmarsk Section of the Worker's Internationale (which would have to rebrand as the "Republican Party" to avoid arrest).

Since 2015, the party has been led by a rotating council of party officials, the most recent General Secretary of the Council being Karl Falk. The current Party Leader (and the Prime Minister of Eldmark) is Enoch "Eno" Ahaloke.

History

Origins

-Political arm of the Eldmarsk Trade Union Congress -Become hugely popular in 1910s, king rebukes them from power -regains power in 1930s, war with Marirana looming, compromises with stiff conservative opposition -this is later, of course, betrayed

Post-Great War

-Councilism heavily cracked down on -AFP moves to democratic councilism, radical elements split forming the Eldmarsk Section of the Worker's Internationale -banned from InterCon -loses power in 50s, regains it in 80s, stagnates due to dilution of ideology

21st century

-Suffered huge loss in 2001 -official opposition for 20 years -lost membership to coalition of centrists -regained power in 2021
