The SJA-40 Saiqa (Arabic: صاعقة, English: Thunderbolt) is a lightweight Riysian air to surface missile, with development starting in 2001 and entering service in 2007. It is designed for use in close air support and interdiction missions against a wide variety of targets, including armored vehicles, reinforced bunkers, buildings and strategic facilities, and small naval vessels.

History

Description

Propulsion

The missile is propelled by a solid rocket motor, with enough fuel to propel it at Mach 2 over a distance of 40 kilometers.

Guidance/Seeker

The Saiqa's seeker head is modular, and can be changed and replaced to fit mission requirements. There are currently three seekers available for the missile - an electro-optical (TV-guided) seeker, an imaging infrared seeker, an active radar seeker, and a semi-active laser homing seeker. A separate variant with an extended range of 60 kilometers is available with an anti-radiation warhead for SEAD/DEAD duties. The missile is generally a fire-and-forget missile, except in the case of the semi-active laser homing seeker head.

Warhead

The SJA-40 carries a 140 kilogram warhead, designed to penetrate the target before detonating. It is usable on a wide variety of targets.

Variants

  • SJA-40: Basic tactical model.
  • SJA-60 Maqbara (English: "Graveyard"): Specialized tactical anti-radiation missile, with an extended range of 60 kilometers.
