The SJJ-11 Saiha (Arabic: صيحة, English: cry or shout) is an advanced Riysian air-to-air missile. It is designed to supplement the SJJ-9 Kouwayzar in service, but not fully replace it due to cost and complexity.

History

Description

Seeker

Terminal guidance on the Saiha is a dual electro-optical/imaging infrared seeker. The optical seeker scans for targets through optical imaging, somewhat like a human eye, allowing it to be effective against targets with low infrared or radar signatures, such as stealth aircraft or cruise missiles. The imaging infrared portion provides a backup method of detection in the event that the optical seeker is obscured. It can be programmed to attack certain portions of an aircraft, such as the cockpit.

The export version uses a dual-band infrared/ultraviolet seeker with a very high resistance to infrared countermeasures.

The missile has all-aspect - including directly reward - attack capability, high off-boresight lock-on capability at 90 degrees off-boresight, and lock-on after launch ability. It designed to be used with the Rayah helmet-mounted display series.

Warhead

All versions use a 15 kilogram continuous-rod warhead, with a proximity and contact fuse.

Propulsion/Control

The Saiha uses a conventional solid-fuel rocket motor, with thrust-vectoring nozzles and multiple control surfaces to greatly increase maneuverability. It has a minimum range of 300 meters, and a maximum range of 120 kilometers, and is claimed to be usable in both visual range and beyond-visual range combat.

Datalink

The missile utilizes a datalink, which operates similar to that found on the SJJ-9 - two-way when used with Riysian aircraft, one-way with non-Riysian aircraft. Also like the SJJ-9 before it, the Saiha may be fired in either linked or fire & forget modes.

Variants

  • SJJ-11A: Main version.
  • SJJ-11S: Export version, with a dual-band infrared/ultraviolet seeker instead of the main version's electro-optical.
  • SAJ-11: Surface-to-air missile version of the SJJ-11A, used on the NDJ Saiha, with additional booster. 20 km range and 15 km altitude.
