New Houses of the Mutul

The New Houses of the Mutul (Mutli జిబమిహ, Tzinimja) or Militant Houses are the names given to a collection of Mutuleses families who were enobled following their support of the Ilok'tab Dynasty during the Sajal War. Following the war, their founders generally received administrative or military positions, which their descendents have expanded into other fields like economy or law. The concept was coined during the Itzamnaaj Reforms during which some lineages lost recognition as an High House because of their participation to the war, replaced by lower nobles or commoners who had led royalists militias and remained loyal to the K'uhul Ajaw. Within the Mutulese aristocracy, the distinction between Old (such as the Xiu, and Chel), Emerged (nobles who gained in rank like the Ikaiche, Ixkanha, Xlosha, and Makanche), and New Houses remain an highly topical way to separate the lineages into their own sub-groups.

Families

The following families and their descendants are listed below. Each indentation is at least one generation down, but not necessarily the next generation. Not all the descendants are shown.

Kem

• Jasaw Chi Kem (హసవ చి కెమె, 1779–1867) most effective and longest serving officer under the Ilok'tab. Granted the title of Kaloomt'e following the war.

May

• K'atun May (కతుని మఇ, 1787–1875) youngest of the original officers who followed Itzamnaaj B'alam in its escape from K'alak Muul. Received important courtly positions post-war in addition to its military position. Promoted to Kaloomt'e after Jasaw Chi Kem' death.

Pat

• Yax Kelem Pat (యశ కెలెమె పత, 1765–1853) : Bakab of Kulumpich before the war, made one of the Nine General of the South (Noj Ajaw K'atun).
  • K'atun Kelem (కతుని కెలెమె, 1788–1876) : Halak Winik of Kulumpich from 1839 to his death.
    • K'atun Ox Pat (కతుని ఒశొ పత, 1808–1887) : One of the Nine Generals of the East (Ochk'in Ajaw K'atun) during the War of 1845, promoted to Kaloomt'e of the East afterward.

Pek

• Winik Pek (వినికి పెకె, 1761–1852) : First Colonel in the Third Northern Army after the War until 1849, then became one of the Nine Generals of the North (Xuman Ajaw K'atun) until his death.

Poot

• K'al Poot (కలి పుతొ, 1785–1837) : Garrison commander under the Noble Republic, he changed side in 1835 alongside his troops. Died in battle. Posthumously ennobled.
