The Arucian Angels (Gaullican: Anges d'Arucia), officially the Bank of the Orient Avatar Team West Arucian (Gaullican: Rive de L'orient Equipe D'Avatars Arucien Occidental), is a professional esports team based in Port de la Sainte, Sainte-Chloé. Founded in late 2019 by the Bank of the Orient, it is the only professional Avatar team in the Arucian, drawing the best players from the amateur teams across the West Arucian. In particular the team represents the countries of Imagua and Sainte-Chloé. The Angels quickly rose to prominence when it achieved second place at the 2020 Avatar World Championships, and has won the Asteria Inferior regional tournaments two in years in a row. It will be participating in the 2021 Avatar World Championship.
History
Formation
E-sports only relatively recently became popular in the Arucian, however, they have grown increasingly popular in the previous years. Various clubs began hosting tournaments for games such as Avatar in the early 2010s, and as time progressed the clubs eventually began having players play internationally. However, these clubs never found much success, and were generally outclassed by the countries which already had a stronger presence in the game. In 2019, the Imaguan Bank of the Orient decided to fund a team for the Avatar World Championships taken from the best players on the islands, hosting tryouts and tournaments to determine who would make the team. This was to make its image appear better in light of the corrupt activities which had been exposed about it.
2020 Season
Coached by an Imaguan, Bart Derasmo, it has found surprising success on the International Level, winning the Asteria Inferior Regional Championship and advancing on to the World Championships in 2020. To the world's surprise, the Angels managed to secure second place in their first World Championships, quickly propelling the team to international repute, and heavily reliant on Delacroix and Leroy's solid control on both top and bottom.
2021 Season
In 2021, they replaced the old Bot Roamer, 29 year-old Lyonel Thompson, with the younger Louis Lejeune, a move which caused some controversy in the team as was disliked by several members of the team. However, they were still able to find success in the regional championship, securing the Asteria Inferior tournament again in 2021 and pushing them onwards again to the world championship.
