Helene's singing career started when she performed a rendition of Orinoco Flow during a talent showcase. This caught the attention of a talent agency and she was soon called in to perform in the concerts under the management of Nonagon Entertainment. Her parents agreed on this signed her for a 5-year contract with the company. During her time in the management, she only recorded 2 singles and was dissatisfied with how the company treated its talents. Of all the female singers in the company, she was the less treated than her counterparts who were called to perform more on stage because of their popularity. She filed complaints that she was not enjoying her stay with the company due to inadequate treatment and most of the heads ignored her opinions. Her requests for leave were also ignored. In an interview, She revealed that during that time, she has been suffering bronchitis and diarrhea

In early 2011, she filed for the termination of her contract. Her parents were against this and ignored their pleas to continue working. The Auckland City Court ruled in favor of Helene, who had a lawyer, which was one of her closest friends during her stay in Auckland University. By May 2011, she was freed from her contract and she began to act more on her own. When she enlisted for the Austrakiba Defence Force in 2013, she performed numerous songs that kept the morale of the troops up. Her sweet demeanor led her being popular among the troops, making her a Forces' Sweetheart.

One Australian Major named Richard Philip Todd sought her company and became friends with him when she and him shared a common taste for classic music. Another soldier (and future lover) named Nanichi Okada befriended her when the latter admitted to being a big fan of Wakabayashi and got his chance to speak with her. Her two friends eventually became her guides for reestablishing her singing career. In 2014, Richard personally recommended her to sign on to TS Entertainment, which she agreed to for a 3 year contract. In 2015, she released her first album, Pure. When her contract expired in 2017, she signed on to Himitsu Company, which was established by Himitsu members as a way to find talents and perform in charity and veteran concerts. Her charitable activities and environmental services became the driving force for her being one of the top talents in this small company.
