The Monarchy of Atlantica is the ceremonial monarchy of Atlantica. Atlantica is unique among Esquarian nations in that it is a Triarchy and combination of an hereditary monarchy and elective monarchy, all within the framework of a personal union; the three Atlantican monarchs are all appointed different ways, with the Atlantican Co-Jarl being elected via an instant-runoff vote by the members of the Althing from among the members of the Atlantican royal family, the Vjaarlandic Co-Jarl automatically inheriting their post as Co-Jarl as an ex officio post of the Grand Duke/Duchess of Vjaarland, and the Allsherjargoði of the Atlanticanist Temple elected by all members of the Atlanticanist Temple (Atlantica's state religion) over the age of 16. Although today, as specified by the Constitution of Atlantica the Monarchy has no powers besides that to award honours (although the Allsherjargoði of the Atlanticanist Temple does have some powers in the context of their leadership of the Atlanticanist Temple, although this is not related to the monarchy), historically Atlantica was an executive monarchy, with the Vjaarlandic Co-Jarl having considerable powers, although both the Atlantican Co-Jarl and Allsherjargoði of the Atlanticanist Temple have historically not had powers tied to their position as monarch. This, combined with the Atlantican Constitution expressly giving the legitimacy of the state and sovereignty to the people via the social contract (thereby technically making Atlantica a popular monarchy), has led to observers nearly unanimously describing Atlantica as a crowned republic.

Atlantica, historically a republic, originally became a monarchy in 1407 as the Vjaarlandic government indicated it would not trade with Atlantica unless they became a monarchy, resulting in the Althing electing Ásbjörn Þórirsson to become the first Jarl of Atlantica, a position (now called Co-Jarl) that has both always been powerless and stayed within Þórirsson's family, merely known in Atlantica (as traditional Atlantican naming customs dictate that there are no surnames, merely patronyms) as the House of Atlantica, since its existence.

The Vjaarlandic Co-Jarl, on the other hand, was appointed Co-Jarl in 1657 (the Atlantican Co-Jarl was kept on as ceremonial head due to Atlantican insistence) as Atlantica's economy collapsed and agreed to partially submit itself to Vjaarlandic rule in exchange for Vjaarland forgiving all debts and providing much-needed food aid. The Allsherjargoði of the Atlanticanist Temple was soon later appointed (purely ceremonial) monarch in 1671 due to Atlantican fears that the Vjaars would convert the Norse pagan Atlantican to Vjaarlandic Catholicism.

Atlantica is notable for having a set coronation (but not election/inheritance to the throne) date (albeit only for the Atlantican Co-Jarl and the Allsherjargoði of the Atlanticanist Temple), with the Atlantican Co-Jarl required to be coronated exactly in the year following election to the throne on the Winter Solstice, and the Allsherjargoði of the Atlanticanist Temple required to be coronated the same year following election to the throne on the Summer Solstice.
