Mystikon
The Mystikon is the personal civil service and secretarial body of the Holy Emperor and Autocrat of the Aromans and Equal-to-the-Apostles of Tagmatium. It is headed by the Mystikos, the personal private secretary of the Holy Emperor. It is from this official that the name of the office dervices from - it translates from Laimiaic as "the secret one". Aspects of the office and the role have changed over time, with the office occasionally possessing financial and judicial roles. By the 19th Century, as the running of Tagmatium became increasingly complex, it settled into the role of secretariat and civil service, dropping any other roles. The fact that it stands apart from all the other governmental bodies and the Asekretis, the civil service of Tagmatium, was and remains valued by the Holy Emperor. It means that it is less likely to be influenced by any other organisation.
The Mystikon first appears in the 9th Century under the Synkletic Dynasty, as a body of secretaries to aid the Holy Emperor in running the Greater Holy Empire, especially with correspondence and record keeping. It formed in order to provide the monarch with a discrete service separate from all of the other bureaucratic and ministerial bodies that made up the government even at this relatively early date.
