Johannes Schnabel is a Blaorian-Drambenburgian politician who currently serves as a member of the Federal Council of Blaoria since succeeding Alain Maurer after his death in 2017. Schnabel is a member of the pro-Drambenburg Behalten Party, and endorses ceding Blaoria to Drambenburg. In 2022, he challenged Alwin Edelstein for Prime Minister in the general election. On July 18th 2022, the results of the election became mired in delays and irregularities. After four recounts, Edelstein was eventually declared the winner on August 17th, but Schnabel opposed the results. Schnabel called on his supporters to deny the election results and protest the government. For weeks, massive demonstrations occupied the capital of Winterstein and 6 people were killed, along with hundreds injured in the clashes between pro-RPP and pro-Drambenburg protestors.
Early life and education
Political career
Schnabel was appointed to replace Alain Maurer's seat in the Federal Council after Maurer died in 2017. Schnabel had been Maurer's chief aide and was unopposed in seeking replacement.
Controversy
The circumstances surrounding Maurer's death are mired in controversy, because although the autopsy determined the death was caused by a heart attack, it also uncovered a substantial amount of Cyclosarin nerve agents in his blood. Some believe that Drambenburgian agents poisoned Maurer, who had begun speaking out against Peter XXI Wettin, in order to insert a pro-Drambenburgian puppet (Schnabel) into power.
