Personal life

Singh was born to Indian immigrants at La Palma Intercommunity Hospital in La Palma, California, United States and grew up in nearby Artesia. Singh is openly gay and has been with his partner Kevin, a nurse practitioner, since 1999. He was the family friend of Celina and Joseph Dunham, the daughter and son-in-law of Amelia Vega Hayes, a secret millionaire. He met the couple in 1994 while attending Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. Celina was a part-time teaching assistant at the university. Singh later became a friend of the family and was described affectionally by the Dunham's daughter Jennifer Sloan, as her uncle. After the passing of the Dunham's in 1998, he helped Hayes secure guardianship of Hayes's grandchildren Jacob, Jennifer, Josephine and Jessica. Singh became closer to the children after their parent's death and described them as his god children. Hayes named Singh the executor of her trust in 2006 and was bound by a confidentiality agreement until around ten years after her passing. According to Forbes and the American Bar Association, he received around US$1.382 million.
